So the Experimental Cocktail Club is meant to be Paris’ original speakeasy bar and the bar that got the ball rolling and the trendsetter in the cocktail and bar scene Paris sees today. Renowned for it unique and fresh flavour combinations and bold moves in experimentation.

So from that description of it the bar is set pretty high!

As you enter the venue, there is a doorman and then you are allowed in and through a curtain you enter. It was quite busy when we arrived, so we started standing at the bar and then moved to some seats that became free shortly after and our drinks were brought over to us. Which was a nice touch.

However, I just wasn’t really wowed by the place. It wasn’t so ambient as all the other places we had visited in the city. And it felt a little bit pretentious and almost unwelcoming. One thing I have always loved about good cocktail bars is, despite their grand and elaborate decor etc, they are still warm and inviting. Yet here, just didn’t quite give off the same atmosphere. It was by no means a bad experience, just when you have such a high reputation, I guess it is quite a feit to be at that standard consistently. The drinks themselves though, were of course beautiful.

This was a good place to have A drink, but I wouldn’t really want to stay for more than one. This being said, that is just my opinion and it looked like everyone there was enjoying themselves.

Not sure how I felt about the plastic chandelier type lighting. thoughts?
