The Harvard Business Review, INC, and Fast Company have all published articles on why teachers would make great business leaders.

And each of these articles makes excellent points.

However, as a teacher of over twenty years, I believe Fast Company’s article entitled “Why Teachers Make the Best Entrepreneurs” summarizes the connection between teaching students and leading businesses best.

They state that “sales and marketing come naturally to teachers,” teachers “know when to throw out the playbook,” “teachers know what students want,” and “[teachers] care.”

Their claim makes perfect sense if you look at the similarities between what is required to ensure student success and what is essential to business success.

For example, both environments involve a diverse group of people working together, each with different knowledge levels, areas of expertise, and individual strengths and weaknesses.

Both environments must ensure their members have high levels of motivation and engagement to maximize achievement.
