Say “5–4–3–2–1” and Go

A few years ago I first heard about Mel Robbins’ technique of using the method, “5–4–3–2–1 and go”. She suggests counting backward to jump-start yourself like a rocket ready for takeoff or a diver ready to hit the pool.

Find a Way to Get Started on Anything

Whether it is a phone call you are putting off, a warm bed you don’t want to get out of, a workout that you are not looking forward to, a conversation you have to have, or a feeling of panic or fear that you are trying to get rid of, saying, “5–4–3–2–1” can help you jump-start a new task or more productive thought.

Arise, It is Your Task

However you feel, or whatever thoughts have crept into your mind, realize that you are not alone. Life is really tough right now. But, arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it (Ezra 10:4). 5–4–3–2–1 and go!
