9 Tips to Become a More Assertive Person

I first read about being assertive as a teenager in my one of my daily horoscopes. Since this was before Google, I grabbed a dictionary to find the meaning, here is a synthesized version:
Assertiveness is being able to express your feelings while still respecting the feelings of others. You can stand up for your rights and others; you can get the point across without being aggressive.
Since I knew what the “new” word meant I would tell people I am assertive, and it is okay, after all being assertive as a teenager was important.
People would say, “well Marla being assertive can sometimes come across as you being harsh.” Many people confuse assertiveness with aggression. There isn’t anything wrong or aggressive about open and honest communication when done appropriately. You’re simply clarifying your needs to another person.
I am not saying I always said things appropriately as a teenager or even an adult, however I decided to own being assertive.
