Their love was the wind and the soil
a force as constant as the turning Earth
Spring’s whispers stitched their hearts together
each petal that fell a promise
each raindrop a thread
binding past to present

Summer burned gold upon their faces
their love ripened in the long hours of light
The air shimmered with their joy
and even in the heat of arguments
their shadows always fell together
two branches bent by the same wind
The fields of their days stretched endlessly
scented with honeysuckle and the taste of shared work
Storms swept through but only deepened
the roots they’d planted
In the end, the sky always cleared

Autumn painted them in gold and russet
wrapped them in the art of letting go
They raked the years into neat piles
holding hands even as the winds gathered
Leaves drifted, but their love
was the trunk that never faltered
