Assumptions
A poem
Assumptions not only blind
they kill our souls
hurting the one falsely accused
harming the proud who thinks
they know you inside and out
Assumptions feed hate
spread lies
build walls
keeping everyone set apart
categorized into ‘them’ and ‘us’
Self-righteousness is the clothing
the ‘others’ wear, but really,
all those Assumptions made
shouted, spewed, dress you in the same
clothing…maybe we are all not ‘other’ after all
Assumptions are binding chains
shackling us to pain
only willingness to listen
learn another’s thoughts,
to disagree even, will free us
from the destructiveness of
Assumptions
