An introspective poetic piece of dialogue between two furry friends.

Can you believe that all I do is run?
Yes, frankly, that is all we’ve ever done
In front of a window, next to the sun
I said it was fake and proceeded to get shunned
Yeah — by Jessica, she was a lot of fun
Too bad we only lasted for a couple of months
Whatever happened, why’d you break up?
She said what I did could never be undone
Which was?
I was too afraid to take the plunge and Jessica
had a hunch I had a fear of commitment
Because of what happened with your parents?
Divorce? Yeah
After the breakup you listened to a lot of grunge
Do you keep in touch?
Not often enough
You see that human hit a home run the other day?
Yeah
Do you think they are someone’s son?
Could be
Recently, I thought about an air-soft gun
We’re hamsters
I know
Would be a waste of money really
I guess so
Let’s disrupt the status quo
What?
We are always running forward on a wheel
that brings us nowhere
Well we do go somewhere
where?
Forward in time
Sure, I guess but I mean it lets do it
Is this an attempt to get Jessica back?
Maybe, I don’t know — I just know we could
be doing more
than existing as hamsters?
Yeah
So — let’s say we do this. What do we do afterwards?
I don’t know become venomous
oh, the bad gerbil angle. Nice
or learn to fly. Something.
My shift on the wheel starts after yours
Think about it
Will do
Hamsters that fly or inject venom? Our
adoption rates would skyrocket.
