In the world of publishing, a writer’s grand quest
To birth a book baby, oh, what a test!
With words as their weapons, they battle each day
Through edits and rewrites, they find their own way
They dream of the shelves, lined neat and so fine
Their book standing tall, like a bottle of wine
But alas, the reality can be quite grim
As they navigate queries and rejection’s firm whim
They send off submissions with hope in their heart
But responses are slow, like a snail pulling cart
They check their inbox with bated breath, so keen
Only to find spam and newsletters, not what they’ve seen
Then one fateful day, an email appears
A publisher’s interest, it banishes fears!
But negotiations start, and they feel quite undone
As they haggle and bargain, it’s no longer fun.
Finally, a deal struck, the book’s on its way
But oh, the deadlines, they cause such dismay!
With coffee in hand and bags ‘neath their eyes
They type and they scribble, under deadline’s cruel guise
