Jesus Loves You,
Why do people say this to everyone?
I wouldn’t consider myself a religious person, and it doesn’t bother me when others practice their religion. But I do get upset when some religious zealots try to shove their religion in my face. One particular practice of many so-called Christians is when they constantly say to me and others, “Jesus Loves You.”
There is an elderly religious fanatic who lives in our town and rides a large adult tricycle around. He parks at various spots alongside the town’s main roads and streets. He has two huge signs, about 3 ft by 5 ft. One says, “Jesus Loves You,” and the other asks, “Are You Ready to Meet Jesus Soon?” He wears a variety of “Jesus” slogans on his hat, shirt, ties, and tricycle. At times, he has been moved from his preaching site because he is an obstacle to traffic.
On Sundays, near a large intersection of town, members of some storefront church gather with signs proclaiming, “Jesus Loves You,” “Honk for Jesus,” and “Sinners Are Going to Hell.” They get as close to traffic as possible without being hit by a car. Many of these “evangelists” are young children or teenagers dressed exceptionally conservatively. Girls wear ankle-length dresses, and boys wear short-cropped hair reminiscent of Heaven’s Gate religious cult members.
