Writers and publishers are all over the place after Medium’s declaration that no AI writing can be behind the paywall after May 1, 2024.

Clearly, AI has become a problem, and Medium is trying to avoid paying for writing that isn’t human-developed. That much is understandable.

I understand the problems Medium has had to become a profitable company, and why it wants to keep those profits from slipping away to people who haven't honestly earned them.

We have both sides of the story: writers who develop good content that are consistently overlooked vs. writers earning big profits by producing content frequently with the help of AI and publishing daily.

And writers become jaded.

Others publish short and poorly written content daily, who provide little in the way of meaningful content, but get rewarded for being consistent.

And writers become jaded.

We've moved from the days of the Wild West when you could write your heart out through personal stories that need little to no research or substantiation.

And writers become jaded.

With the advent of AI, some writers produce soulless content quickly and earn decent coin.
