The Lone Tree

A poem.

The lone tree
In a desert with no others like it
Whose only friend is its own shadow
It continues to grow
Slowly
Moving higher towards the sky
But it doesn’t know why
It cannot sense its own growth
Growing outwards instead of up
To shade those who seek refuge beneath it
Who take, but don’t give
A tree with no water
To cry
Who grows in a desert
