Dear Baby,

You are precious. You are beautiful. You are my one and only who inherited my smarts. Don’t be afraid. Be joyful. Because, you will get a chance to go to school like no other.

Once you completed your degrees you won’t be alone. We will watch out for you in every way. We will arrange some friends and suitable mates. A doctor should be wed to a doctor. A financier should be wed to a secretary. An actress should wed a director. An engineer should be with an engineer. A lawyer should wed a politician. If you are none of the above, we have saved one college educated writer husband just for you.

This Saturday, upon hearing that you were born, your grandmother panicked and called for a meeting. She summoned all 19 village grandmothers to discuss the issue. The issue lies that you will be too educated. You were born to a village doctor and his school teacher wife. Such a small village that we live in, you will be shun. You will be too educated to be matched.

Nevermind love. Love is only good in marriage. Marriage is only good if it lasts. A woman is certainly nothing without a husband.

But, don’t you worry, we won’t let you down. After all, we have 18 years to make the match. We will move to the city if it doesn’t work here. We will move to another country if it doesn’t work.

You are our one and only. We love you no matter what. That is why, no matter what, we will get it done. We will make you a match.

Lovingly,

Mom
