Women Find Men with Psychopathic Tendencies More Desirable

Startling new findings have implications for how psychopathy evolved.

A new study conducted by Canadian researchers suggests that there is a link between psychopathic traits in men and their sexual desirability to women (Brazil & Forth, 2019). The well known problems that are created by psychopathic individuals interpersonally and in community settings contrast their sexual appeal, desirability and success, as demonstrated by the study. The researchers examined how men with psychopathic characteristics interact in romantic situations.

To attempt to explain this relationship they formulated the sexual exploitation hypothesis. This hypothesis stated that psychopathy comes with special features that help suppress normal female mate choice and to establish positive impressions and desire in potential intimate relationships. Men who have antisocial traits may be able to take advantage of these features in romantic situations with women.

In the first part of the study, men who had been evaluated on psychopathy, social intelligence and sociosexuality were filmed engaging in a dating interaction. In the second part, women viewed the videos and rated the men on desirability. They also were asked to leave voice…
