Here are some things I do to prevent having a cold
I really care about each of you and I don’t like getting sick either. I’ve had days where it took me a long time to recover from the cold, and I’ve had days where I was only fighting a cold for a day. So here are my tips since I’ve been hearing people getting sick since a month ago. As I’m writing this, I’ve been fighting off a cold too.
- Don’t hang out late with lots of people. I know this is hard if you are a social butterfly or work around lots of people. If that’s the case, you must go through all of the next points carefully.
- Have your 7–8 hour sleep. If you can’t take melatonin supplements.
- Try to have something citric everyday. Citric fruits contain vitamin C: oranges, mandarins, lemons (make your lemonades or add lemon juice to your hot teas).
- When you are noticing you are beginning to fight a cold (runny nose, sneezing often, sore throat) try your best to go home early to rest or eat/drink something with Vitamin C right away. The earlier you rest, the faster you will recover.
- If you are already sick or want to prepare just in case, buy these over the counter products: UMCKA (you can find it at your local Whole Foods or similar store), Theraflu, Mucinex, Robitussin. I’ve put them in order of preference. The last 2 are more effective for cough and sore throats and the first 2 are more effective for colds and flu in my opinion.
- Just Relax. I know you may feel less energetic, or a need to lay down, and perhaps as if you are wasting your time. Maybe this cold is giving you a chance to watch a nice movie or ask people to bring food for you, or an excuse to order delivery!!
- Make a soup with all the vegetables you can put in there, a little bit of ginger, chicken, and noodles. Or have someone do this for you. When you don’t have a cold, soups are great way to prevent them when you notice you are starting to fight it off from your system.
- Stay Hydrated and Stock up on teas (if you can’t sleep when you drink teas at night don’t drink them at night), honey, lemons, and chamomile. When you put it all together with boiled water is good for your throat.
- Stay warm, especially when you go outside: You can’t go wrong with this. When it’s warm outside, try to take a walk around nature, it’s good for you.
10. Always have a plan B in your leadership positions:
This might mean, training and helping those who can be your substitute before the next time you get sick (hopefully this won’t happen to you soon). That way, when you get sick, you won’t feel guilty about the need to stay home, since you have people who can be in charge of your responsibilities.
This strategy has been the toughest one for me but I’m still in this journey with you learning day by day.
11. Here is a Chinese remedy I’ve tried and it works for those of you who like coke soda. This combination might sound strange but oh well, you won’t know if this works until you try it. Just add a can of Coke, 2 slices of lemon, and 3 slices of ginger (cut into 1 inch), put all into a pan and let it boil. Once boiled, it’s ready to smell the aroma, wait a few minutes and drink it hot or warm.
