Kuwait Airways Kuwait — Amman

(Previous) Kuwait Airport: white and pristine, full of shops selling chocolates and dates, reminiscent of Dubai’s airport.

Perhaps the major difference is the portraits of the royal family, which could be seen in multiple places. Not only the king himself, but also his family members.

I also got a chance to exchange some Kuwait Dinar. One Kuwait Dinar equals to more than $3. I believe it’s the currency with the highest value in the world.

left: Didn’t expect to see Pinkberry in Kuwait airport…; center: Amman, my destination (pictured here was actually Petra, technically not in Amman)

Some more aircraft filming while waiting to board. Most special has to be the Iran Air — certainly not a common one.

Boarding the Kuwait Airways A320 to Amman, Jordan.

Kuwait Airways A320 also came with a screen.

To my surprise meal was also served in this short flight. Again I don’t remember much about it (the mango dessert was quite nice as I recall). The coke didn’t come with the full can this time.

right: I was amazed to see the iconic center-pivoted irrigation system in deserts. Having seen multiple times in textbooks, but first time seeing them in real life.

Landed in the yellow, arid, deserty country of Jordan. A Royal Jordanian Boeing 787 was seen at the adjacent gate.

Amman airport in the afternoon gave off chill vibes. I had purchased “Jordan Card” in advance, which included the visa and entrance fees to a number of major tourist attractions. The immigration process was pretty smooth.

center: Photos of the Jordanian family: the late King Hussein (who fought against PLO), the current King Abdullah II (who famously flew a fighter jet to fight ISIS), and the crown prince. Their photos could be seen often in the country.

right: precious Starbucks mugs

This was 2017, so money exchange and sim cards were nowhere as easy as they are now (with my Charle Schwab debit card and Google-fi phone plan). After exchanging some Jordanian dinars (1JD = approximately 1.4 USD) and get a sim card. I stepped out the airport and let the journey — the highlight of my round-the-world trip, begin.
