On Friday, 22 November 2024, during an ultrasound, I learned I had a
huge cyst in my belly, coming from an ovary. This is my diary of the
events that followed that discovery.
In the list linked at the end, you can find all parts of this ordeal.

I had a telephone consult with the anesthetist scheduled on this morning, after filling in a lengthy questionnaire at the hospital a week earlier. They’d given me a two-hour block in which they could call, and they did so right in the middle of it.

The lady who called was an assistant, and she told me the anesthetist wanted to see me personally because of the nature of the operation.

For the first time since this ordeal started, panicky nerves rushed through my body. I totally forgot to ask questions, but just agreed to an appointment at the end of the week.

That evening, I logged into my hospital account to read the folder for the CT-scan I would have the next day, as I knew I couldn’t eat before the appointment, but I needed to double-check the time frame.

My eye fell on three new folders, all from the anesthesiology department. One had the heading about an app you could download, bundling all the information you might need. I installed the app, followed the directions in the folder, which directed me to look for ‘treatment path’.

That was where the folder stopped, and the option took me to a screen where I could choose a department, and obviously I chose ‘Gynecology’. That gave me three new options:

  • Pregnant (nope, don’t think so!)
  • Fertility (not a chance!)
  • Ovarian cancer (WTAF???!!!)

Okay, I knew they’d said that they might find malignant cells, even though that chance was very slim. I was also aware this was the reason they were so careful with the operation, and why they decided not to do a laparoscopy.
