On Friday, 22 November 2024, during an ultrasound, I learned I had a
huge cyst in my belly, coming from an ovary. This is my diary of the
events that followed that discovery.

I know I kept you all in suspense, but before the operation on 16 January 2025, I’d expected — and I was right — that I would need time to process it all. It’s only at the start of this week that I eased back into being online.

Buckle up, as this will be a bit of a bumpy ride. There is more to come as I recover — but probably this will be the last weekly share.

My last full working day for, what I think will be, at least two months.

My last bullet journaling day at my daughter’s for, what will probably be, at least six weeks.

In the afternoon, the hospital called to tell me my operation would happen at 1pm the next day. I had to report at 11am.

Only then I turned into a nervous wreck, but only for about half an hour.

Operation day!

Blood work

We were at the hospital at 10.15am, as I first had to have blood drawn for a crossmatch. I thought this was ridiculous as they had already tested for this on 3 December 2024. But, the nurse explained to me they had to change it again as the antibodies in your blood are important for when you need a possible blood transfusion, and those antibodies can alter from day to day, week to week.

The results of your crossmatching test let lab staff or blood bank workers know which blood type will work the best for your transfusion.

Unlike other tests, blood typing doesn’t have any normal or abnormal results. This kind of test simply…
