I’m Out! Why I Couldn’t Wait to Leave the Hospital

If you have ever spent a lengthy period in the hospital, you will know it is true: the best part of a hospital stay is the day you walk out. On that day, you walk out to freedom, to join the rest of the world. It may seem strange to anybody who has not endured a long hospital stay to hear it described as captivity. After all, the professional medical staff repaired some important things that would have ruined your usual way of living, didn’t they?

Yes, and where would we be without them? Nevertheless, a long hospital incarceration (I’m joking) has side effects — emotional side effects. Remember, a long stay in the hospital means you were there for a painful and debilitating ailment. If you do not consider yourself to be an overly emotional person, a long stay in the hospital will help you with that!

Let me explain.

In a previous story, I mentioned the funniest thing I heard while in the hospital: a certain hospital’s policy of not allowing patients to leave the ward for a walk because a fair number of them had simply walked home!
