The Peace Correspondent paused. We took time to reflect, to breathe deeply and to “reboot” our effort to transform the media into an intentional force for public good.

In that short time and continuing on, young people in America have ignited a movement with an unmistakable message: Enough is enough! The youth are speaking through action, demanding responsible leadership to end an epidemic of gun violence. And their fierce determination shows no sign of abating.

One result: The premiere issue of the Peace Correspondent Volume 2 offers coverage on the topic Gun Violence: Enough is Enough. But we offer this coverage in an experimental way.

After months of research into new and emerging journalistic approaches, we have selected four genres — Peace Journalism, Solutions Journalism, Restorative Narratives and Constructive Journalism — that represent the most promising trends to heal a broken world by changing the stories we tell about that world. Instead of harping on brokenness, we present the alternatives from four distinct and powerful points-of-view. These stories are written by the journalists and thought-leaders who have helped shape media transformation through a turbulent decade.

Take note that the Peace Correspondent has an impressive counterpart in mainstream media. We recently discovered that The Guardian, a long-standing and dependable source for news, has made a commitment to promote stories for the “public good” based on the hard results of an 18-month study. I will be closely following their ground-breaking commitment, as I continue the work of implementing the Peace Correspondent experiment.

In the new format, each story will be accompanied by a sidebar giving a summary of the journalism genre and links to websites and other media featuring foremost advocates. The editorial board has selected exemplary stories by leading journalists to follow directly after. We invite you to engage with this content and to offer plenty of feedback and guidance as we venture into a new world where media makes sense and gives us tools to build more peaceful tomorrows.
