Severus Snape is one of the most interesting characters in contemporary fiction.

He is introduced as one of Harry’s main antagonists at Hogwarts School.

He ends up being a red herring in the first mystery of the series, a misdirection to turn your attention away from Quirrell.

Later, it is revealed that he was the one who passed part of the prophecy on to Voldemort, ultimately resulting in the death of Lily and James Potter.

He spends two books working as a double agent for both sides. And Harry doesn’t buy the notion that his ultimate loyalty truly lies with the Order of the Phoenix.

He kills Dumbledore.

And then, finally, we learn of his love for Lily and of his true repentance to the light.
