As we all know, Philadelphia is known for all of the tasty and delicious culinary treats. Luckily, for outsiders who cannot experience Philadelphia’s food everyday there is a food tour dedicated to the food culture. There are many food tours to explore the tastes of Philadelphia, however the one I will be talking about also lets people explore the city of Manayunk.

Manayunk is located within the city of Philadelphia and is most famously known for Main Street. Main Street is filled with restaurant/bars, shops, and many different art galleries. During the daytime it is always fun to walk Main Street for shopping and food, at night time it is filled with people going out for drinks.

Manayunk is the home to many places that allow you to explore it’s authentic Phildelphia cuisine. The Manayunk Food Tour stops at about 8 restaurants on Main Street and all stops highlight what Philadelphia’s food culture is all about. This tour allows all the sightseers to explore all of the iconic food within the area. The tour usually lasts up to an hour and a half and costs $60.

The food tour has usually stops at the same restaurants every time these include:

Marchiano’s Bakery: This bakery has been ran by the same family for three generations. They have mastered the ‘tomato pie’ which is their most popular item. The items on Marchiano’s menu are very popular with Philadelphia traditions such as sporting events, holidays, and many more gathering occasions.

Tasty Twisters: The next stop on our tour is a pretzel factory. Tasty Twister is a family own business that serves tasty soft pretzels. Located in Manayunk, Tasty Twisters have been serving up hot and soft pretzels the Philadelphia way.

Sorrentino’s: Sorrentino’s is a deli/grocery shop in the manayunk neighborhood known for it’s award winning cheesesteak. This deli has been owned by the same family for three generations. Sorrentino’s has very good service and a huge menu of different sandwiches!

Han Dynasty: This restaurant was founded in Philadelphia and is rated top 50 Chinese restaurants in America. Han Dynasty has delicious Chinese meals on the menu and is relatively cheap. On average, a person spends about twenty dollars during a visit, Han Dynasty offers group specials.

Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory: Tubby Robot is an Ice cream shop located right on Main Street known for its gourmet ice cream. This ice cream factory specializes in unique sundaes. Tubby Robot has a video game theme and this makes it a fun atmosphere.

The places named above were all created in the Philadelphia area making them very unique to the area. You will not find these creations anymore original than they already are.

Manyunk is known for being a very popular nightlife town. Manayunk is the home many college students, graduate students, and post grads all who love to go out at night and have a good time. Almost every night of the week is a night to go out and have fun. On the weekdays you can find good deals on drinks and food at almost every bar.

Main Street has about 20 bars all offering different atmospheres, these bars include:

Bayou Bar and Grille: Offering a laid back bar experience with the manayunk culture atmosphere. Bayou is more of a relaxing bar where you can sit down relax and enjoy sports entertainment. Bayou is a perfect bar to sit for happy hour with friends and enjoy your night.

J.D. Mcgillicuddy’s: A sports bar always offering delicious bar food and live entertainment. Great for sitting down and enjoying conversations amongst the people of Philadelphia.

Manayunk Brewery: Gives a fun night life experience with its handcrafted beers and special cocktails. The Brewery is often referred to as the Brew Pub as well and offers an out door patio bar when the weather is permitting. This bar is great for a night of dancing.

Madriver: One of the only bars in Manayunk with a spacious dancefloors and a sports bar experience, awesome for a Saturday night out! Mad River always has loud and energetic DJ’s that gets the crowd up and dancing.

These are just some examples of the great bar and restaurants. Here are a few of my personal recommendations. Greg’s Cafe, Lucky’s Bar and Grille, Cactus Bar and Grille, and Insomnia Cookies.

Be young, be fun, do MNYK.
