The holiday season is full of joy and gratitude. Being grateful and appreciative of the things that we have and being around loved ones. Sometimes we are so wrapped up in our own emotions that we forget about the people who may not have it as easy. The smallest once of giving could make someone so happy. Giving back fills the heart with a sense of fulfillment and it is a small gesture that could make a complete strangers day. Here are some simple suggestions to give back this holiday season:

  1. Volunteer Service Opportunities through SERVE Philadelphia. Serve Philadelphia connects residents to local service chances to help within the community. This wide range of oppurtunities spreads across the entire city. There more than likely will be chances to help youth with art, simple neighborhood cleanups. Food drive donations, and the chance to get more involved within the community. SERVE also partners up with groups or businesses that are looking to help out as well.

2. The Support of after school activities, an investment in our youth which are our leaders of the future is very important. After School Activities Partnership (ASAP) provides quality after school programs which helps with our youth. This organization could alway use volunteers to assist with activities such as debate, chess, or drama. ASAP’s chess program is the largest program in the country helping 2,500 youth throughout Philadelphia. This program helps with the youth to keep them motivated and keeps the youth entertained and out of trouble which is usually the goal of program.

3. Fight food insufficiency and support local hunger organizations. Hunger is an epidemic in which we face in Philadelphia and across the nation. There isn't much that we can do across the nation for now. How can we help within our community? Philabundance, which is a hunger relief organization serving 90,000 people in and around Philadelphia. To help there are many ways such as volunteering and hosting food drives, monetary donations are welcome, and also raising awareness of the great things Philabundance does across social media platforms for your followers to know about this organization and how it helps those in need. Philabundance also partners with MANNA, which provides delicious, nutritious meals which are medically appropriate for those who are fighting life threatening illlnesses. Supporting MANNA will also help through monetary donations or simply volunteering at the center.

Volunteering isn't meant to be long winded or difficult. Volunteers are good for the soul and is a task which fills ones heart.
