Neil deGrasse Tyson’s life is so entire of synchronicities that it is only natural that he has become one of the greatest popularizers of the universe.

  • Neil is the same age as NASA, 65 years old (both were born in 1958).
  • The apartment complex where Neil lived and learned to use his telescope was called “Skyview” in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx.
  • Neil became the director of the Hayden Planetarium, the planetarium he used to go to as a kid.

But what is most impressive about Neil is not his Harvard degree, his research positions at Princeton, or that he is the astrophysicist with the best sense of humor.

The most fantastic thing about Neil is his humility.

For decades, he has dedicated himself to answering hundreds of letters and emails people send him (not only asking about the universe.)

I have read his most recent collection of letters in the book Letters from an Astrophysicist, and here I share some of the lessons that have impacted me the most.

Ambition is good, even if many say otherwise.
