Adults With Degrees from Baylor University Did A Dumb Thing
If you weren’t already aware, things aren’t going particularly well for Baylor University right now. Within the past month, Baylor has fired it’s head football coach Art Briles, athletic director Ian McCaw has stepped down, and President (and then Chancellor for a little bit) Ken Starr has resigned, all due to a heaping pile of alleged and confirmed sexual assault cases involving Baylor football players.
In addition to accepting players into the program whom they most likely knew had histories of issues with sexual assault, the administration shoved reports of football players committing sexual assault under the rug. These are all very good reasons for a university to get rid of people in charge, but for some reason, Ken Starr and some alumni don’t see it that way.
Instead of laying as low as possible and trying his best to live the rest of his life outside of the spotlight after resigning because he didn’t acknowledge one of his students raping another, Ken Starr has decided to go on a media circuit to defend himself, doing TV interviews ranging from local TV news to ESPN. I’m sure you can guess how that’s going.
So now that Starr has inserted his entire foot into his mouth, it should be assumed that most everyone with a brain realizes he needs to shut this whole thing down and just take the L, right? Wrong. Some people with brains and college degrees decided to buy a full page newspaper ad commending Starr for his “integrity” and “exceptional care for students” because apparently that’s what it’s called when you let your football players rape women and do nothing about it.
It’s absolutely hilarious that these people were so proud of themselves for doing this that they decided to put their names on the ad. They even created a website for other people to add their names to the list. Do they not understand that this is like if Penn State alumni bought an ad for Jerry Sandusky after he left, thanking him for his contributions to the university (albeit less serious because Starr didn’t actually assault anyone himself).
One final thing, does this ad thing happen at a university in any other state but Texas? I’m voting no. 2016 is crazy.
