I recently started using Instagram again after 3 years off the platform. I’ve started from scratch with a new account and a new focus — to only follow accounts that will provide me with education or inspiration. I love my friends, but I don’t need to see their vacation photos or what they ate for dinner yesterday. I want to use Instagram for it’s best at; connecting strangers and sharing glimpses into other people’s lives.

So with my brand new account (and the 3 random posts I’ve been inspired to add so far), I decided to start following financial independence hashtags. Here are just a few:

#financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #journeytofire #personalfinance #moneybloggers #financialgoals #debtfreecommunity #investing #livingonabudget #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #womenandmoney #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom

I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for, but I have read almost all the books and blogs on Financial Independence / Retire Early (hell, I even started my own Medium Publication on the subject) and am still looking for ideas. There is no ‘one size fits all’ in regards to financial independence and my own strategy is ever evolving, so I thought I would look for a new outlet to get ideas.

What I didn’t expect to find on Instagram was some incredible women in control of their finances, investing in their futures, sharing key information on budgeting, managing finances, pensions etc. These ladies are really helping to expand the knowledge and education around finances. So often I’d been hearing stories from men, software engineers, bankers, high income earners, usually single, but predominantly the main breadwinner, sometimes who’s answers to saving money was taking less showers or only buying one cup that could act as a bowl too (I kid you not)! I don’t want to live with just one coffee cup to be used for everything, I want to be comfortable enough with my finances to also buy a Chanel handbag if I so wish.

On Instagram I found women sharing their financial independence journeys, in an open, friendly, educational way. Some are sharing every single detail, down to the cent, while others are sharing the methods that work for them. And these women are killing it! I am so impressed, inspired, and thankful that they are sharing so that myself and other women can speed up our own financial independence journeys too!

Below are a few of my favourite accounts, but there are many more accounts out there that can help meet you where you are (honourable mention also goes to gayhusbandsonfire who are hitting a different diversity segment, but also producing fantastic content).

My Wealth Diary

https://www.instagram.com/p/CROz9_3Hwnp/

With over 52,000 followers, My Wealth Diary is an account to follow if you are looking for hardcore inspiration. She took her net worth from -$57,723 in 2015 to +$350,948 in 2020. She first paid off student loan and credit card debt, and then started investing in herself by learning about investing and tracking her expenses and income. She’s been sharing her learnings and journey with her followers along the way and created an incredible spreadsheet to track everything money related. In 2020 she made $75,000 from her Etsy side hustle and though she’s still in her 20s, at the current rate, she’ll be a millionaire by 35. Oh, and her posts are very pretty!

The.moneyminimalist

https://www.instagram.com/p/CQcaER0HA9S/

Helen, aka the.money.minimalist is only 26, but has already amassed 13.6k followers. Her motto is” living with less and earning more” and she’s also on track to ‘retire’ at 35. Helen only started her Instagram account in 2020, to track and share what she was learning about, but it’s become so popular, thanks to her live videos, that she’s already been featured in Bloomberg Wealth and Bloomberg TV. In July 2021, she quit her job to focus full time on building her educational platform, workshops and helping more people understand personal finance and investing.

Intentional Dollars

https://www.instagram.com/p/CPebTf0na5c/

While Intentional Dollars is only 24 years old, I am so impressed at her negotiation skills and work ethic! Another badass woman who managed to increase her salary from $82,500 in 2018 to an eye watering $212,500 totay, she shares her process, the negotiation script and all the feelings she had along the way. Her posts are like reading messages from a friend who is trying to help you succeed. Oh, and she’s also trying to retire her mom, which makes me want to cheer her on even more!

Conpoint

https://www.instagram.com/p/CRHSxuDnH5w/

Connie, aka Conpoint is already 32% to her FI/RE number at just 29! Connie posts/blogs about her journey with FI/RE, with working a job she doesn’t love, negotiation, saving, investing and living! Connie is not afraid to express her opinions, and it’s refreshing to see how she negotiates this with her employer. In May 2021, after what she states “ one of the most mentally taxing chapters of my working career” she negotiated a one month career break with her employer. I personally love this, as I never understood how people could go from school to college to work without having breaks. Connie has shown us that anything is possible and that actually, if you are a good employee, it’s time to start asking for what you want — because you are probably going to get it!

Financially Brave

https://www.instagram.com/p/CH8YIeNlF9A/

Financially Brave, aka Alexis, has over 26,000 followers and focuses on teaching young professionals how to build wealth. She’s one of Yahoo Finance’s Top 10 Coaches, and has been on a range of podcasts discussing managing debt and building wealth. Check out her testimonials, as she has already helped many women and couples get on track with their finances, and do more with their money!

Female.in.finance

https://www.instagram.com/p/CRB2wZ_HBgy/

Female.in.finance, aka Leandra, is DTF (down to finance)! With over 77,000 followers she is on a mission to educate women (and men) and get them investing by removing fear of the unknown. Her posts are simple, clear, and educational, but also fun and engaging, with topics ranging from budgeting to health. She also has an adorable dog called Kepler and shares the costs associated with owning him.

Laura_ann_moore

https://www.instagram.com/p/CQeHR1fBNiD/

Laura is a UK based Money & Mindset Coach who specialised in demystifying personal finance. As a Brit myself, she offers a perspective closer to home (where we don’t have access to the 6-figure US salaries, nor the generous 401k schemes). She’s been featured on the BBC and through her Instagram posts, she makes budgeting, investing and managing finances fun!

These seven are some of my favourites, but not the only ladies killing it on Instagram with their finances. If you follow any others that I’ve missed, let me know in the comments! I’d love to expand my Instagram investing community.
