Auto Deceit, Part 3
It was exactly as she had expected. While the couch cushions seemed as though they had been searched under and items on shelves moved around, nothing looked too much out of place. She toured the maze of rooms of the ground floor before going downstairs where she found it to be pretty much the same as above. Putting things back in order wouldn’t take much time.
“Ma’am we really should be going.” Tall Officer waited by the stairs.
“Yes, of course, I just wanted to check on things. Seems okay?”
“Of course Mrs. Copperman.”
“Please call me Tammy.” She smiled a practiced look of sad kindness. Award-winning.
The officer obliged her, “Tammy,” he let her name roll off his tongue as if being allowed to say a forbidden word out loud.
In her mind, Tammy giggled at the reaction she had on the young man. What the officer saw was indifference to his smile. She swung past him onto the stair and made her way to the second story of her home.
At the top of the grand staircase, she headed directly for their master bedroom suites. At the doorway, she turned to the officer who remained close to her. Too close.
“If you don’t mind,” she indicated he could wait here.
