The officer came around the door and placed a large palm under her elbow. “Slowly, no need to rush.”

Tammy looked up to the officer, the blue of her eyes looking like ocean pools behind the layer of tears having sprung up at the words, no rush. “Why is there no need to hurry?”

His eyes turned down. The man was unable to look at her when he replied, “I’m sorry ma’am.”

“Oh my God,” Tammy whispered, her throat suddenly too tight to breathe. Her knees gave out and she sat back down into the cruiser. She knew when the moment of truth was finally upon her, the reality could hit her hard. However, if she did not stick to her plan, her reality would become a place she would not want to live in.

The officer offered Tammy his hand, his large palm held out before her, long thick fingers waiting for hers to grab and grip. As she pulled herself from the car, she let her hand linger on his. “Thank you,” she offered before sliding her skin across his palm.

The man offered a confused smile, not knowing what to make of the tiny woman. She looked like she could be a teenager, with her short white-blonde hair, sky blue eyes, short shorts, and pink t-shirt. Knowing who she was and who she was married and related to, he also knew she had to be in her early forties at least. If pressed, he would swear she looked no older than 22.
