Speaking in front of a crowd was her thing. More people feared public speaking than death, but she feared neither.

Everyone would have their moments. When they would have to speak in front of a crowd and death would find them. These were facts in her mind.

Her children followed her up the steps to the stage, flanking her at the podium like she’d instructed them last night. If there was one thing she didn’t have to worry about, it was her children not being able to follow instructions.

Placing her flowered journal on the podium, she opened to the page marked by a pink ribbon, the one she had worn on their first date, nearly twenty years ago. They’d been kids, Freshman in high school. She truly thought it was more than love at first sight, they’d been soul mates.

Being one's soul mate does not always mean rainbows and unicorns, she knew this. It was something she’d learned early on in their relationship. That ‘can’t live with them, can’t live without them,’ kind of connection. It was more than love, it was a duty. A calling. A Devine responsibility.

Now she’d be free of it. God had promised her.

And the family attorneys had promised her too.

Tammy ran her fingers over the words she’d written, wishing she could share these passages instead of what she would…
