Hey everyone, great to see you all back! Wondering who said the above words and what is to do with today’s story? Also most of you would be thinking what does this topic actually mean? Is it something do with a magical escape or is it a part of an industry? The answer is today’s topic is no less than a magic and deals with an industry which produces more profit than a country’s economy and has lead to a great internal war and loss of many lives. And for your information those words belong to Joaquin Guzman, most of you might not know him by this name. Now what this man recently did and always does is a wonder and still not proved how did he work that out. Let’s see who he is and what he did!
Narcotics! Drugs ! Drug Lords! Cartels! Mexico ! Tunnel ! War ! Money !
All these dots join to a single man, Joaquin Guzman, popularly known as El Chapo, the greatest drug lord of Mexico, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. For those who don’t know, A cartel is any criminal organization with the intention of supplying drug trafficking operations. And Sinaloa is is an international drug trafficking, money laundering, and organized crime syndicate which is also known as the Guzmán-Loera Organization, the Pacific Cartel, the Federation and the Blood Alliance. The drug trade in Mexico represents one of the biggest industries in that country, accounting for as much as $991 million dollars per year. The 2006 drug seizure of over $206 million in cash, the fortune of Zhenli Yen Gon, an ostentatious drug smuggler, was approximately equivalent to the whole budget of the Mexican General Attorney Office for three months (CDHCU 2006) and was the largest seizure of drug money anywhere in the world (Shenon 2007).
That’s all fine, but why is he called the lord of tunnels? He is the leader of a violent organization as said above, but what makes him special is his ability to transport more drugs and other smuggling between countries without anyone finding, including the Government. He even escaped from prisons and other custody magically . He was a master at escape. He did all these using “tunnels” and that’s why our title.
To transfer the drugs from Mexico to USA, he used a tunnel which no one even knew. When people identified this after years, they described it to be like the ones seen in a James Bond movie. It was a very long tunnel, almost 300 ft with all facilities and electricity through out the tunnel and an hydraulic system to lift to safe storage above the tunnel for distribution. They started growing new kinds of drugs throughout the country and started exporting it as the tunnels helped them a lot. Even the odorless and other odor full drugs could be transported without any obstacle. He was very intelligent in designing it and also smartly chose an area that was industrial ( so that noise will not come out), the soil that was easy to dug tunnel but will withstand the weight above and moreover the place was the best for distribution in the United States.
He also used this for his escapes from custody and jails (even from high protection areas). Yes he was put in jail in 2015 and just like that escaped through a tunnel in the jail which got captured in the CCTV camera there. Underneath that he had a motorcycle fixed to rails that helped him to escape to his cartel’s safe area in just ten minutes. He also used the same technique of tunnels several times to escape. Once he escaped through a tunnel under his bath tub when police surrounded his place. All these tunnels were very special as they had all facilities to stay and escape and were built very quick and well planned.
Now he has been arrested again and put in maximum security area. This time when he was transferred from one place to another, the Government even closed the Brooklyn bridge to avoid his escape. That is how much people know about his mastery at escape. Even though he is in jail for life time imprisonment, his legacy of tunnels will live forever!
