Breaths and Whispers

The first gray light that jolts me

Bouncing off your still face

Illuminating none, but your sleep,

Disappearing into the road ahead.

The road without your light

Wrapped in darkness that spares us.

The road without your eyes

Serpentine in my imagined sights.

Vapours of your warm breaths

Making war with the cold winds.

Shifts & whispers of your sleep

Like a quarrel with destiny.

The rays have turned Tuscany

when they jolt your steady breaths.

Has it been late, darling ?

I do not know.

If it is late, I whisper.

Nothing has come early.
