I waited eons for this moment,
retirement funds and fun —
It turned into an anti-climax.

Dreams became sun-mist,
surreally unreal fantasies —
spending days trying to find myself…

Tears: it doesn’t solve problems.
Do you understand this huge fear
of being old, fragile, and alone?

Oh, to be a younger me.
days of joy and wonder,
days of endless fun and dreams —
days lived as images in my mind.

Old age aches and pains,
wrinkles, and stretchy skin,
Hearing problems, mobility issues,
and fading eyesight. What a test?

Old age worries,
loneliness and ghosting —
little everyday annoyances.
I’m grateful:
for a loving God,
to be alive,
for a home,
for loved ones,
and food to eat.
