A poem about lost long-distance love and memories.

Driving Rain — Photography by Author — Nagoh Creative

lost memories

a voice inside me whispered
as a smile opened my face
a grin, I still remembered
my heart won't dare erase.

the distance outside hurts
since you are very far away
the closeness inside births
a friendship flame so great.

so take my hand in the darkness
under your closed eyes
imagine I’m there, sitting,
right here by your side.

Ever since exploring my newfound love for poetry, I have seen a huge level of growth in my writing. A big part of that has to do with prompts and challenges. I strongly encourage you to jump in and participate in them as other writers share them in their publications. Jason Edmunds issued a recent challenge on his publication The Poetry Club. The challenge was to write about “memories, love, and relationships”. His poem and story reflected on old childhood memories, young love, and being pulled away as part of life moves on and our environment changes. This is what inspired my poem above.
