Nature’s Elegance
Celebrating the Japanese art of appreciating and embracing the small joys of life through Haiku on International Haiku Poetry Day.
Three days ago, Jason Edmunds gave a writing challenge about writing a Haiku for International Haiku Poetry Day. This is my first Haiku, and it is about nature. Before this, all I knew was what I read or heard about it. After being tagged in the post, though, my thoughts began to rumble, and I managed to spin something out that was, well, pretty good.
17th April marks International Haiku Poetry Day. So here we go.
Nature is pristine
calm, fiery-looking, silky
- dressed like a goddess.
So going by the 5–7–5 syllable rule, I wrote this, and let me explain a bit.
Although it is not hard to write a Haiku—a brief poem with only 17 syllables—there are moments when it becomes challenging.
The natural world is perfect in every way. Looking at it transports me to a place where I am cleansed of all negativity and can live my life to the fullest (line 1, 5 syllables).
When something out of the ordinary occurs, nature calms down, but when something truly remarkable happens, she finds her inner fire and takes back what was stolen from her. Furthermore, she is composed and fluid, moving in time with the music like a silky velvet fabric. (line 2, 7 syllables). This is another aspect of her personality that is noteworthy.
I aimed to paint a picture of nature in lines 1 and 2 that would be reminiscent of a woman with many talents. Being a goddess, she is capable of assuming any shape and manifesting an abundance of good, all the while keeping her own identity and dispelling any negativity that crosses her path (line 3, 5 syllables).
This is my first attempt at Haiku, so I hope you all like it. Any comment or feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading. Don’t forget to clap or highlight any lines you may love or like! 😇
