Wizards.

Wizards of the new millenia.

We look in the stories of old and they talk about wizards dreaming up new fancy things with their magic.

What if they really did exist?

These wizards conjured up new realities with their minds.

By pure intent and knowledge, they were able to make fantastical creations reality.

We look back and think just how silly this sounds.

Casting spells, reading tea leaves, conjuring animals, changing materials.

They all sound right from the pages of a story book.

But if we look at it in perspective,

These creations would have been ahead of their time.

Things that may not have even been concieved if not for the wizards.

Now lets skip forward to today.

Is intent all we need to conjure up things so fantastical to our world?

We as a people, have dreams, just look at the movies.

We dream of travelling far away.

We dream of travelling at the speed of light.

In K-Pax he talks about travelling on a beam of light.

In Star Trek, they beam themselves places.

What if we had wizards making this dream come true in our reality?

We do have them, but instead of alchemy and spells, they’re using bosons and quarks, quantum information, and light.

Today I read (in several reputable news sources) that some of these wizards work at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany.

These wizards have managed to teleport an object a distance of half a meter, and this isn’t just some subatomic particle either.

They moved an object made of thousands of billions of atoms (still microscopic, but huge on a quantum scale.)

And they did it by entangling the quantum information of the object into a beam of light.

They made matter teleport on a beam of light.

The world dreamed it, and the wizards created it.

What other dreams will the wizards conjure into reality next?
