The point cloud is not just a novel way to visualise surrounding world. Its full potential lies in capturing spatial relations between objects. Pointscene offers several tools to get various measures from 3D data. I want to focus on distance measurements first.

I have been using this tool mostly to vectorise objects from point clouds. Using online platform for this purpose, made my work more effective and simpler. At last, I was not restricted to only one device with a software assigned to it. Performing distance measurements with Pointscene tool is extremely easy- you’re two clicks away from the result.

Based on my experience, I believe that anyone from architecture, construction, surveying or mining field will benefit from point cloud measurements. It can be used to support decision making on the spot, as well as to assist in a planning phase. Later it will allow verifying actual state with the project.

Pointscene platform offers the user easy tool to measure distances. To activate the tool, click the Measure Distances icon with left mouse button.

Left click anywhere on the point cloud to select starting point of your line. Coordinates of the point will be displayed in the green rectangle.

Add next nodes in the same way or exit measurement mode by clicking right mouse button. Use left mouse to drag nodes and adjust their positions. The measured results show on the label in the middle of each segment. They contain the length of segment and differences in XY and Z directions.

Select the line with left mouse button to access characteristics of the whole line. On the left side opens Measurement Editor. Here you can view more detailed information about the line. If you want to remove created line, choose Delete.

Ready measurements can be exported to DXF or TXT formats and used in other software.

I hope you will find these instructions useful. Please let me know in the comments if you need any help!
