We Need Your Support for the EAA Reservoir Bill

Please make your voice heard before 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, when SB10 is scheduled on the committee’s agenda for a vote.

This is SB10’s FINAL committee stop before reaching the full Senate. We need to make sure the Senate Appropriations Committee members hear how necessary SB10 is for the health of our estuaries and the Everglades.

Please take action TODAY to support SB10’s hot off the press amendments filed by Senator Rob Bradley (R) and Senator Jack Latvala (R).

SB10 advances one of the original Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) projects — The Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir. A critical part of the solution to a complex water quality problem, the EAA Reservoir will provide needed water storage, treatment and conveyance south of Lake Okeechobee to reduce harmful discharges to the estuaries and send clean water south to the Everglades and Florida Bay. Acquiring the land needed to accelerate the EAA Reservoir project to store and treat water is essential, as the discharge of toxic water from Lake Okeechobee impacts Florida’s economy, health and environment.

Newly proposed amendments address concerns about language in the current version of the bill that would shift state policy away from land acquisition for conservation (Florida Forever), to water supply and infrastructure project purposes. The amendments proposed by Senator Bradley remove the problematic language. The changes also include more flexibility to look at currently owned state land, and swapping of properties to get to the desired amount of storage capacity for the EAA Reservoir, as identified in CERP.

Protect our sensitive estuaries and the Everglades — WE NEED YOUR HELP! ACT NOW!

Please email, write, or call each of the legislators on the committee and tell them to vote YES for the new amendments to SB10! Additionally, please write to support and thank the bill sponsor, Senator Bradley, and the new amendments co-sponsor, Senator Jack Latvala, for prioritizing the EAA reservoir project and for filing important amendments.
