The U.S. government was tired of treaties. They were tired of sacred hills. They were tired of ghost dances. And they were tired of all of the inconveniences of the Sioux. So they brought out their cannons. “You want to be an Indian now?” they said, finger on the trigger.

Last Sunday, Trump promised to re-re-name Mount Denali, this nation-state’s highest mountain, back to Mount McKinley. William McKinley was this nation-sate’s 25th president and he was assassinated in 1901. Both Alaskan natives’ and the state of Alaska’s official name for the peak has long been “Denali.”

That’s right. Convicted felon and president-elect Donald Trump says that it is his deep respect for the martyred president that moves him to make this move.

In point of actual fact though, and given Trump’s visceral, indeed pathological, hatred of all things “Obama,” it is as clear as that august mountain’s air in June that Trump does not really hate the name “Denali”; rather, he hates the name, the reality, the whole idea of “Obama.” You see, the name change to “Denali”…
