So that was quick. After yanking late-night host Jimmy Kimmel off the air for a seemingly innocuous joke, his corporate bosses had him back on the air Tuesday. They realized fast they had overreacted. Angry viewers threatened to yank subscriptions from ABC/Disney/Hulu — which is one giant media blob these days. Add to that a letter signed by about 400 Hollywood celebrities in conjunction with the ACLU, and the tide was obvious. Kimmel was back.

Unapologetic Return

And he is unrepentant. He came out swinging, bashing Trump with sharp barbs. In his first address, Kimmel did send apologies to the Kirk family if he thought he had offended them. But by Wednesday, he was even colder and clearer: the reason he doesn’t like the president is because he’s a bully.

This whole affair could leave ABC/Disney with a black eye, but Trump comes off worse. He looks exactly like what he is — a thin-skinned bully who dreams of being an autocrat. What kind of country are we living in if we can’t make jokes about the president? Every other president has endured it. But this one can’t handle a few puns. And doesn’t he have better things to do than watch TV, like ending the war in Ukraine? That’s…
