A journalist lies spread-eagled on the floor as two government goons kneel on her before whisking her away in an unmarked car. Where is this scene from? Some third-world country? Some dictatorship abroad? No — this happened in an American city: Chicago.

On Friday, Debbie Brockman, a producer with WGN, was spread-eagled on the floor and taken away by Border Patrol officers. Before she disappeared, Brockman desperately shouted her name and employer to shocked onlookers so they could attempt to track her down.

Whisked Away

The government agents claim that Brockman threw objects at them. Bear in mind, Brockman is a middle-aged TV journalist, so that seems highly unlikely. Of course, this isn’t the first time law enforcement officers have lied. I’ve had a family member involved in a case, and I know officers and prosecutors regularly distort the truth.

For hours, Brockman was gone — lost in a maze of government bureaucracy. But Border Patrol later released her, and no charges were filed. If the charges had any merit, they would have indicted her.

This was an act of intimidation. It’s Trump’s latest battle in his war against the media. Trump wants the press to be cowed and ineffective…
