Jan. 6 and the COVID pandemic, two of the worst events over the last five years, both showed us the danger of disinformation and propaganda. On Jan. 6, 2021, thousands of Trump supporters who bought into years of his lies, were convinced by propaganda to attack their own country. They caused $2,000,000 worth of damage and the event resulted in five deaths. Now, many Trump supporters are doing time because of his lies.
The COVID pandemic was a mass casualty incident. More than one million Americans died during that healthcare crisis. But the worst thing about it was watching thousands of Americans die because they believed lies. Because of right-wing propaganda, which politicized the pandemic, thousands of Trump supporters refused to take the vaccination or heed the other healthcare warnings on how to prevent COVID. As a result, thousands of Trump supporters died unnecessarily.
