As the nation moves closer to another presidential election in the next several months, President Biden is confronting lackluster approval ratings and running neck and neck with former President Trump in a few polls. Biden wasted no time targeting Trump, whom he referred to as “his predecessor,” and also unloaded numerous salvos at Republican lawmakers sitting directly in viewing distance of him. “My predecessor, a former Republican president, tells Putin, ‘Do whatever the hell you want!’” Biden stated in the inaugural minutes of his speech to a joint session of Congress. It was the first of more than a dozen references to Trump, who became the GOP’s presumptive nominee after his dominance in last week’s Super Tuesday primaries.

This speech represented an angry Joe Biden. It epitomized a boisterous Joe Biden. It represented an “OK, it’s on!” Joe Biden. This was a president who did not come to play games!
