Steve Bannon was the top “intellectual” strategist and leader of Trump’s successful 2016 presidential campaign. Although he was no longer in the White House on January 6, 2021, when thousands of Trump’s most rabid followers stormed the Capitol Building, Bannon was widely considered one of Trump’s go-to advisors during that ill-fated coup d’etat.

A House of Representatives Select Committee convened to investigate that attempted overthrow of the government; and subpoenaed Steve Bannon, among other high-up Trump muckety-mucks, to testify as to their knowledge of the planning and execution of that event. Bannon flatly refused to even to acknowledge, let alone answer, that Congressional subpoena. The Committee referred him to the Justice Department for “contempt of Congress.” He was promptly found guilty of the same and sentenced to four months incarceration. Through the federal appeals process, Bannon managed to stay out of jail for over two years.

But all of that ended today: A federal judge ruled that Bannon must report to prison by July 1 to serve out his four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.
