It appears that some Republican donors are concerned that presidential candidate Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) is a 57-year-old bachelor — and whatever implications that may entail.

An August 31 Axios article reported that a number of top party donors are anxious that the Black conservative senator has never been married and want some of their concerns addressed before they commit to his candidacy. Some donors are speculating that Scott is gay, and while there is no evidence that he is, it would be an understatement to say that an LGBTQ candidate would not go over well with Republican base voters.

Scott has never been known to talk about his romantic life, and such reluctance has apparently raised concerns among certain donors who are frantically looking for a competitive alternative to the multiple-indicted, twice-impeached Donald Trump, as Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida struggles on the campaign trail. The last time voters elected an unmarried president was Grover Cleveland in 1884. A source familiar with the concerns of GOP donors stated to Axios that a candidate being single is a bigger problem for Republicans than Democrats.
