Making Canada the 51st State and Buying Greenland would increase America’s Size by 125%
Donald Trump sees himself as a great historical figure. Yet the history books will record that he was the first president to be impeached twice, fiddled while America burned during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was the first convicted felon to enter office. That isn’t the way he wants to be remembered.
Some in American history are remembered for their role in expanding the country. Thomas Jefferson, with the Louisiana Purchase, Secretary of State William Seward for the purchase of Alaska, and Dwight Eisenhower when Hawaii was annexed. If James Polk is remembered for anything, it’s for embracing Manifest Destiny and expanding America to the Pacific Coast. Texas, California, and the Oregon Territory were all added on his watch. Trump is better known for his scandals and role in expanding Presidential Immunity.
Trump has floated the idea of using “economic force” to make Canada the 51st State and buying Greenland, though neither is interested in becoming part of America. The idea that Canada, which is 2% larger than the United States, would become a single State is nonsensical.
