How Accurate Are the Presidential Polls?
Despite the neck-and-neck numbers, I don’t see a close election
In our information age, data is the accelerant — the spark to light the fireworks and brushfires.
If “likely”, “party”, and “undecided” voters are supplying most poll numbers, then which ones? What questions were asked and how were they phrased? Are the numbers collected standing on their own or averaged out?
I’m not suggesting that the pollsters are misleading or manipulative. Numbers and information could be lost in translation. Misinterpreted and out of context.
The media selects the angles, info, and polling to release. They certainly have a vested interest and agenda. Ratings, eyeballs, and advertising dollars come to mind. Once the audience and box office are accounted for, they’ll get to the point — the news.
The margin of error favors the sources while ducking for cover. Landslide (fire!) would empty their theaters. There go the ratings, eyeballs, and Boocoo bucks.
