First, to be clear, I would literally cut off my arm if I could reverse the 2024 election. Second, while I hate everything Trump is doing to the United States and the world order, this is the only world we live in. It’s an utter waste of energy to look back and bemoan what might have been. Yes, right now it all seems like chaos and disfunction. People are losing their jobs, their benefits, their retirement funds. It’s awful. But there’s no going back to the good old days, of, say, Jan 19, 2025.

The best use of our energy it to look forward and plot trajectories that could take us to a better future. I believe there are opportunities for that better future created by this unique moment in time.

  1. Economic collapse could pave the way for ecological reset.

While Trump is doing everything in his power to reverse the climate and conservation goals of the nation, the fact is the planet’s economy has been fueled for decades by the voracious appetite of the American “consumer.” Trump’s tariffs, civil service job cuts, resurgent inflation, and general economic incompetence are on track to decouple and then crash the global economy.
