Arctic Betrayal? U.S. and Russia Discuss Energy Deals While Ignoring Allies
The United States alongside Russia secretly met with Saudi representatives to discuss Arctic-based energy cooperation while it was originally introduced as Ukraine Russia conflict resolution meeting. This has caused widespread anger along with worsening international tensions. The talks took place after RDIF CEO Kirill Dmitriev provided his confirmation about direct economic dialogue between the two countries following the extensive conflict that began in Ukraine during 2022. The Russian financier Dmitriev explained during an interview that the meeting discussion mainly revolved around economics but Arctic energy cooperation took center stage. The discussion involved broader topics but Arctic joint projects seemed to be under consideration. During the meeting both parties focused on discussing Arctic matters according to Dmitriev.
