Recently, President Biden announced signing an executive order with plans to restrict asylum at the U.S. — the U.S.-Mexico border. Although this action intends to apply to certain conditions, it is still a significant deviation from the rhetorics to which the Biden administration and democrats are accustomed.

Biden’s new executive action has stirred up the political pot of criticisms and concerns from various quarters.

One group most vocal about this comes from the progressives, who are voicing their discontent over the asylum limits imposed by their administration. They argue that asylum is the safety net for those seeking shelter in the United States. The reason they are seeking asylum is to get away from prosecution and violence from their home country. And what would the asylum be good for if they also fear that the administration will deny them a fair chance to seek refuge?

Indeed, this goes against humanitarian principles and the U.S. Constitution. The progressive groups critiques unbderscores the existing tension between border security measures and humanitarian concerns.
