The United Kingdom has initiated diplomatic activities in Armenia because of several strategic objectives. Why? The UK basically initiates this operation to confront China’s Belt and Road Initiative and compete with Russian leadership while steering the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. The venture represents a strong strategic play within an area controlled by Russia and watched carefully by China.

China Ignores Armenia – For Now

The Chinese government has kept a minimal level of attention toward Armenia. Beijing excluded Armenia from its One Belt One Road summit in Beijing along with ignoring the country from its Middle Corridor trade route whereas Azerbaijan maintains a central position. That wasn’t an accident. China considers Armenia to be a threat because it appears tiny and unstable and comes with high risks.

But that could change.

The UK alongside EU members continue their progression by bringing both investment capital and diplomatic initiatives to Armenia.
