In recent years, in the United States in particular, identity politics, corporatism and technocracy have become prominent forms of interplay in contemporary political discourse. The questions thus raised about this convergence are critical to democratic governance and societal values. For this reason though, it is important to look at historical precedents, philosophical overviews, political movements and their dynamics.
Historical Context and Philosophical Perspectives
Corporatism in its various forms has been a historical development, one of its most well known examples being from the early 20th century Europe. In Italy Benito Mussolini’s fascist regime fostered a system of corporate organization to organize society along corporate lines (agriculture, labor, commerce, etc.). Being this structure was intended to balance out interests but ended up being a system to oppress individual freedoms and to give up authoritarian control.
